Book a romantic weekend in the Western Lake District by staying in a nearby Windermere Boutique Cottage. You’ll be able to explore all corners of the National Park in Cumbria from your Windermere Hotel. As such, while arranging a stay in Windermere, why not thinks about the Western Lake District at the same time.
Walking in the Lake District
It goes without saying that if you’re staying in a Windermere Boutique cottage, you need to explore your surroundings. So while you may wish to spend all the time in your private hot tub, you should still get out for some fresh air.
Before you set off on foot though, why not hop on the train? It’s a great way to get from Lake Windermere to the Western Lake District. After all, the chances are you’ve booked into a Windermere Spa Cottage in order to relax. So leave the car behind and admire the views as you enjoy a scenic train ride through the countryside.
Many walks in the Western Lake District begin at either Silecroft Station or Eskdale Railway. The former is a great starting point to reach Black Combe. The walking route will take in many historic sites and vantage points along the way. Eskdale Railway is also a great base for your walks, many of which can be planned by checking Miles without Stiles. Whether it’s a quick look around the western Lake District or a hike across the fells, walking in the Lake District always uncovers something special.
Other things to do in Western Lake District
Ravenglass is another great location in the Western Lake District. One of the most popular tourist attractions near Ravenglass is Muncaster Castle. Alternatively head further west and it won’t be long until you’re on the Cumbrian coastline.
Once you’ve reached the coast, expect to find wonderful beaches. You don’t need to go far to look out over the Irish Sea either. The Isle of Man sits in the ocean between the Western Lake District and Northern Ireland.
Although it’s unlikely you’ll go quite that far. After all, you’ll be needing something to eat before heading back to your Windermere Boutique Cottage. As such, plenty of traditional bars, cafés and restaurants await your custom.
If you’re after an outdoor activity, West Lakes Adventure can take you kayaking and canoeing in the waters. Lake Windermere can get a little busy, so it’s always nice to have a back-up plan. Likewise if it starts raining, you can always head undercover at the aquarium. Failing that, jump back on the train and head home to your Windermere Boutique Cottage.
