Stately Homes in Cumbria, England

If you’re interested in historic houses and country estates, there’s an abundance of stately homes in Cumbria, England. Some of which are as much a part of the Lake District heritage as the lakes themselves. Although of course, unlike our Windermere Boutique Cottage, don’t expect the rooms to come with their own hot tub!

The nearest of stately homes in Cumbria to your spa suite will be that of Blackwell, which is also in Bowness-on-Windermere. Just like Rose Cottage, Blackwell may not be as old as other historic houses in the area but it comes with a much loved character.

Once you’ve experience a Stately Home in Windermere, then it’s time to enjoy a river cruise on the lakes. It’s easy enough to reach Coniston from your Windermere Boutique Spa Cottage. So make the most of one of your stay in the Lakes, as you take a Windermere river cruise to the former home of John Ruskin.

Holker Hall

There are lots of things to do in Coniston, in fact it’s the time to visit not one but two stately homes in Cumbria. Holker Hall is well known among the locals for its award winning gardens, which are full of colour all year round.

Another of the historic houses in the Lake District to boast impressive grounds is Mirehouse just outside Keswick. Not only that, but when you’re staying in Windermere there’s lots of fun to be had down the road. Situated along Bassenthwaite Lake, Mirehouse comes complete with fantastic views out into the mountains.

Levens Hall

If you’ve booked into a spa suite in the Lake District, the chances are you already know the National Park is famous for its countryside. You’ll be sure to make some new friends along the way too. However at Levens Hall in Kendal it’s the Black Fallow Deer and Bagot Goats, that will welcome you to the neighbourhood.

Swarthmoor Hall

As with many of the stately homes in the Lake District, Swarthmoor Hall comes with its own back story. Having held an important seat during the Quaker Movement, you can now hire out the building for your own board meetings.

Muncaster Castle

We’ve left the most famous to last, Muncaster Castle. As the name would suggest this is much more a castle than any old stately home. In fact it is one of the Lake Districts most popular tourist attractions. Although having been privately owned by the Pennington Family for almost 900 years, the castle and grounds remain open to the public throughout the holiday season.

Rent a Cottage in Windermere
