When it comes to things to do Windermere in July, then you can always count on the Lake District to keep you busy. It’s not just about long walks through the fields and across the stunning fells. You can paddle your feet in the water, or relax in your hot tub. If you fancy doing something different, here are a few ideas in and around Windermere in July 2018.
Summer Evening Buffet Cruise
When you’re staying at a spa hotel in Windermere, it goes without saying that you should take advantage of Windermere Lake Cruises. They provide the ideal way to get around the Lakes. However every Wednesday and Saturday in July you can also enjoy a summer evening buffet cruise.Departing at 7pm the 2.5 hour cruise comes with a 2 course meal and live jazz, thanks to the Trickle Charge band.
Derwent Water Regatta
Elsewhere in the Lakes the Derwenter Regatta takes place on the 7th and 8th of July. The annual event welcomes amateurs to take part. You can enjoy the water first hand, hire a kayak or canoe, try your hand at paddle boarding or even a Viking longboat.
The popular regatta first took place back in the 1790’s after Joseph Pocklington (aka King Pocky) bought nearby Derwent Island. Now, some 200 years later the National Trust have brought the event back to the people of Cumbria and holiday makers.
For a child friendly event, drop into Brockhole on Windermere one Wednesday in July and enjoy the poems of William Wordsworth. You may be hiring a Windermere Boutique Cottage to get away from it all, but even romantic spa breaks can involve the children.
If you’re staying in the Lake District but visiting friends or family, then take the kids out for the day for some fun and games. As well as the Wordsworth Wednesdays, it’s also an excuse to walk around the World of Beatrix Potter. As one of Bowness-on-Windermere’s most popular tourist attractions, the museum brings the childhood story of Peter Rabbit to life.

Coniston County Fair is a traditional Lakeland show, one that’s been running for many a year. Ideal for those looking for things to do in Windermere in July and have missed the larger Cumberland Show.
