There are certain things that are associated with being traditionally English. If you think of famous sports events, the chances are you’ll go for either the FA Cup or Wimbledon Tennis Championships. As for what to eat, especially on hot summer afternoons it’s all about cream teas. Then there’s the wonderful rural countryside. If you ask almost anyone to name one of the most beautiful regions of the British Isles, the chances are they will say the Lake District.

Wimbledon Tennis

As for Wimbledon, the tennis tournament was founded over 140 years ago and is one of the most prestigious sporting events on the calendar. Who’s going to lift the trophy this year? Will it be Roger Federer for the men and Serena Williams once more in the ladies. With the tournament underway, maybe it’s a year for a rank outsider to hit the headlines.

Although you may be the other end of the country, it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy all the action from Wimbledon. You can of course watch it on television from your boutique cottage in the Lake District. If you fancy a game of tennis, head out to one of the many parks in and around Windermere.

If however all the tennis courts are too busy during Wimbledon, you can always relax in a hot tub at your spa suite instead. It’s just one of the many reasons to stay at Rose Cottage in Windermere.

Cream Teas

As Wimbledon is due to conclude on the 15th July, it’s a perfect time to embrace another English favourite. Strawberries and cream are often associated with the tennis, but why not go all out for a traditional cream tea instead.

Salmon and cucumber sandwiches, a selection of cakes followed by jam and scones. All washed down with a nice cup of Earl Grey. There are plenty of quaint cafes near your Windermere Boutique Cottage to explore, or alternatively head towards the water. Windermere Lake Cruises are the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful Lake District countryside… you may even get that cream tea you’re after, along with a sedate river cruise.

Where to stay in the Lake District

Again when we’re talking something traditional, a nice country cottage in Windermere is a good place to start. However if you’re looking for a boutique spa cottage in the Lake District, then Rose Cottage offers you something pretty special.

Facilities include an outdoor hot tub, luxury bathroom with a whirlpool bath and plenty of in-house entertainment. You can provide guests with a Cumbrian home cooked meal in the spacious kitchen/dining room, or eat out at a nearby restaurant. If you visit during the Wimbledon Tennis championships, then how about watching it on a huge TV in Windermere. Alternatively you can watch Wimbledon from the comfort of your own bed, as you embrace the tranquil surroundings.

If you fancy staying in a Windermere Boutique Cottage, look into hiring Rose Cottage, where you won’t leave disappointed. Alternatively there’s the luxurious setting of the facilities at the nearby Aphrodites Lodge Spa Hotel.
